The community is the lifeblood of any game, and Heroes of Skyrealm is no exception to that rule. Although we've been getting great feedback through Facebook, more robust online destinations will become critical as we move closer to the Closed Beta release.
Today's Community Spotlight guest goes by many names, Daniel and Dan among them, but the Mechanist team knows him best as Oggy. As the founder and moderator of the Heroes of Skyrealm Subreddit and Wiki, he's laid the groundwork for the Web's premier unofficial destinations for HoS info and discussion.
We sat down with him (virtually, of course) and asked him a few questions!
Mechanist: When did your Mechanist Games story begin?
Oggy: I found out about Mechanist in 2012 while prowling through MMO beta key websites like MMORPG.com. I saw that City of Steam was going into Alpha testing, so I thought I would check it out. I only had one screenshot of the game for reference, but I liked what I saw. I loved the artstyle and I was intrigued to learn that it was a browser game. I prowled the forum in hopes for an alpha key, got one, and started making guides and such using my skills in graphic design and multimedia. One of my most prized possessions is my limited edition City of Steam mousepad!
And how did you hear about Heroes of Skyrealm?
I've kept in touch with Mechanist ever since the City of Steam Alpha, so I didn't have to search very hard to find out about Heroes of Skyrealm.
Mech: Which feature(s) of Heroes of Skyrealm are you most looking forward to?
Lore, character/hero stories, and the TOBA mode!
Any favorite characters or nations?
My favorite characters are Reinhard and Richter because of their background story. Favorite nation: Nexan Republic because of the City of Steam influence!
Why a wiki?
Every game needs a wiki! The wiki will help new players when they are stuck. The official website can promote the game, but wikis are best for in-game information. Plus, I'm interested in starting a career working on website content.
What can the Heroes of Skyrealm community do in the run-up to the Closed Beta?
Waiting for a game to come out can be kind of a pain. Although I'm a little biased, I would urge everyone that's excited about Heroes of Skyrealm to check out the wiki and the subreddit!
The wiki is a perfect opportunity for you to learn more about the game, and anyone can contribute. In the future I would love to set up a bounty system for the top contributors to the wiki, maybe a snazzy unique item or something like that. Reddit is the best place to talk about the game and ask questions. And who knows? A dev might drop in and personally answer your question!
What do you think about the comic being set several years before the game? A lot of the heroes from Falcon's Landing were with the Unbroken back then.
I think the comics being set several years before the game is a brilliant idea. I love the idea of prequels – and for lore and comic book nerds like myself, I'm very excited to see a different side of Heroes of Skyrealm.
So that's it for our first Community Spotlight – a big thank you to Oggy for taking the time to talk with us!
